Lead R&D Engineer (Whole Energy Systems) (395093)

Salary range: £53,348 – £60,022

Term: Open-ended

Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week)

Closing date: 26 September 2021

The Lead R&D Engineer (Whole Energy Systems) will be responsible for the leadership, development and delivery of a wide range of technical projects to support the growth of PNDC’s whole energy system activities, with a particular emphasis on experimental validation and testing. The postholder will also be responsible for the development, growth and leadership of a team of R&D Engineers to support these activities, and will be expected to develop and lead on high value industrial funding proposals in addition to working with PNDC’s industrial partners.
 
Opportunities for innovation are extensive, through the strong working relationship and routes to market afforded by PNDC’s industry members and collaborative opportunities with other research and industry teams in the UK and abroad.

The Senior R&D Engineers (Whole Energy Systems) will work closely with the Lead R&D Engineer (Whole Energy Systems) and other colleagues in PNDC to develop and deliver a wide range of technical projects to support the growth of PNDC’s whole energy system activities, with a particular emphasis on the experimental validation and testing of low carbon heating and/or hydrogen-based energy systems. The postholder will be expected to lead on and contribute to high value industrial funding proposals, in addition to working with PNDC’s industrial partners, with a strong focus on knowledge exchange.

PNDC is one of the Commercialisation Centres for the recently-announced Hydrogen Accelerator. The Hydrogen Accelerator is the Scottish initiative for developing and supporting world-leading hydrogen projects, placing Scotland at the forefront of innovative decarbonising solutions, in particular, relating to hydrogen and hydrogen-based technologies in transport. Funded by Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government, the initiative will support the development and scale-up of hydrogen projects in Scotland.
 
The R&D Engineer (Whole Energy Systems) will work closely with colleagues in PNDC to develop and deliver a wide range of technical projects to support the growth of PNDC’s whole energy system activities, with a particular emphasis on the experimental validation and testing of low carbon heating and/or hydrogen-based energy systems.

Innovation Engagement Manager (399772)

Salary range: £33,309 – £40,927

Term: Open-ended

Hours: Full-time

This role is aimed at proactive, bold, ambitious individuals who can demonstrate an aptitude for turning technical and business issues into practical action plans which commercial clients can support. There is a requirement to support the development of innovative concepts that can be turned into deliverable project outcomes.
 
The work will include developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing PNDC clients, members and partners. Establishing the technical and business needs and innovation opportunities for potential partner companies, matching partner needs with available solutions in PNDC and identifying opportunities for growth/change in PNDC. The successful candidate will be engaging with consortia made up of companies, public bodies, and academia with a shared interest in common problem areas, defining project work content via detailed statements of work and requirements for bid submissions and working closely with PNDC research and technical colleagues to ensure project scope and requirements are understood and deliverables achievable.
