Barry Hatton becomes Chairman of PNDC Executive Board

This week the PNDC welcomes Barry Hatton from UK Power Networks into the role of Chairman of the Power Networks Demonstration Centre Executive Board.

The role which is a fixed tenure of 24 months will see Barry play an important part in steering the PNDC’s operational and R&D activities along with the other Tier 1 Board Members, Scottish Power Energy Networks, SSEN, Vodafone and CISCO.

Barry takes over from Colin Taylor (Scottish Power Energy Networks) who has successfully led the PNDC through a period of significant growth.

We are very excited to have Barry Hatton take over the role and bring his vast knowledge and experience to help steer the PNDC through its next phase” David Rutherford, PNDC CEO.

The PNDC, a centre for accelerating smart grid solutions is part of the University of Strathclyde based in Glasgow and is underpinned by world class testing facilities comprising a real high-voltage 11kV and LV distribution network and laboratories. This realistic environment is an ideal setting for testing and developing future smart grid technology in a no risk environment.

Companies can gain access to the PNDC’s facilities on a project basis or by participating in its dedicated R&D program by becoming a member. Members participate in quarterly R&D meetings across six thematic areas which include; Asset Management, Sensors & Measurement, Network & Demand Side Management, Protection, Automation and Control, Communications and Systems Integration and Power Electronics and Distributed Energy Resources.
