We’ve been getting to know some of our fantastic PNDC team as part of our Meet the PNDC Team series. In the following post you’ll learn more about one of our R&D Engineers, Eddie Corr (4th from the left in the photo above.)

Tell us about your role at the PNDC.

I am an R&D Engineer at PNDC specialising in Asset Management. In my time at PNDC I have delivered a wide range of projects on our unique test network, as well as the asset management theme projects I have been involved in testing a number of prototype systems on our LV network, and projects related to electric vehicles.

How long have you been working here?

Almost 2 years now.

What was your background before joining the PNDC?

After I got my masters in Electrical and Mechanical engineering from the University of Strathclyde I joined the Wind Doctorial training centre at the university where I completed my PhD thesis.

I joined PNDC in the finishing stages of my PhD, initially in a part time role, supporting the Asset Management theme lead. When I finished my studies I moved into a full time role at PNDC and I have been leading the Asset Management theme for the last 6 months.

What do you enjoy most about working at the PNDC?

The mix of people at PNDC make working here interesting and fun! I also think the way that PNDC links academia (through our connection to the University of Strathclyde) and industry (via our core and non-core project partners) allows us translate the innovative work being carried out by the university straight to our project partners, which works well.

What can we find you doing in your spare time?

My spare time is generally taken up with projects – either fixing cars or properties. My main hobby is an amateur form of motorsport called stock car racing, which is basically a full contact oval racing series. I built the car I race in myself, it has a full roll cage and is armour plated (for protection but also attack!) In stock car racing the slowest cars start at the front of the grid and the fastest start from the rear- you can probably imagine the chaos this can cause! Here’s a video of me in action.

We’re currently recruiting for a Senior Asset Management R&D Engineer to work alongside Eddie – view details about this position below.
